CW,
ReplyDeleteWhen I take taxis or order pizza, I would tip even though I'm unlikely to see the same person again.
That's why I like to pay in cash so I can say, "Keep the change."
You can see the "same" behaviour in some men like in offering cigarettes to new friends in NS or buying drinks for kakis.
We can also spot "similar" behaviour in small kids or when we were young - some share toys; some don't ;)
Does this mean most give tips due to their nature or their way of showing appreciation of services; especially on time & effort rather than exceptional level of service received?
ReplyDeleteCW,
DeleteBoth.
Just ask yourself how you felt when receiving a tip when you did not expect one?
Sometimes a tip is to show appreciation for the common man who rides the SMRT bus. (There are people who give ang pao to the foreigner road sweepers keeping our HDB estate clean)
Sometimes a tip is to reward exceptional level of service.
Just don't over think it.
Want to give, give.
Don't feel like giving, don't.
Sometimes its nice to see smiles on other people faces ;)
