Gold as natural hedge of inflation???

Many small retail investors may like to hold Gold in their investment portfolio to diversify and hedge future inflation.

Without becoming an expert in market timing in highly speculative Gold market without yield (annual cash flow), how to hedge over year-on-year inflation?

You will need to sell and buy again.  Short and cover again.

Keep repeating them well!

How about growth-dividend stocks?

It is also highly speculative; but at least provide some cash flow.

If we are lucky with increasing cash flow. It will effectively wipe off all future inflation impact.

No?

Gold as Insurance means paying premiums for protection

Gold is without yield

That missing yield is the cost of premiums paid for using Gold as protection against future inflation and/or government printing more and more worth less paper currencies.

Common folks understanding is that Gold as hard assets will be able to retain at least its base value across market and economic cycles.

Cost of Protection

Here is the truth from Uncle8888!

You may not like to hear from Uncle8888 telling you the truth and fact.

How savvy are you as retail investors in investing your own money?

Can you make at least 10% yield on your investment?

If you can make 10% yield, your cost for using Gold as protection is 10% premium.

If you are dumbest retail investors, your cost of protection is the lowest.

Smartest retail investors will be paying the highest cost for protection!

Silly right???

Why Warren Buffet no like Gold?

Got the answer???

The Two Biggest Misconceptions About Gold

Just For Thinking

Read? Why must be Gold for hedging Inflation???

By Alex Rosenberg

Gold is one of the most widely held financial assets - but that doesn't mean everyone understands the catalysts that drive gold higher or lower. On Tuesday's "Futures Now," RBC Precious Metals Strategist George Gero set out to clear two of the biggest misconceptions people have about gold.

Misconception One: If Gold Falls for a While, That Gives You a Good Chance to Buy It

This one sounds pretty obvious. Gold is worth a given amount, so if people keep selling it, than it will fall to a level at which it's a good value - right?

Well, not exactly. As Gero explains, "Asset managers look for performance - and performance has not been with gold." This explains why the major stock market rally has presented a serious headwind for gold. As stocks have seriously outperformed bullion, managers moved their money out of bullion and into what was working.

That's why trends in the gold market can be far more important than any sense of inherent value - meaning that, paradoxically, falling gold prices are bad news for people who are looking to buy in.

Misconception Two: Gold Is a Safe Haven That People Should Buy When They're Worried About the Market.

Okay, so if stocks and gold often move in opposite directions, then you should buy gold if you think the market will drop, right?

Sorry, wrong again. Gold, Gero explains, "is a misunderstood safe haven trade. Because the real safe haven for gold has been maintenance of purchasing power."

In other words, people might scramble to buy gold when they become fearful of inflation, because gold stores value in a way that dollars don't. But gold isn't necessarily a "safe haven" in the way that treasury bills or U.S. dollars are. It protects only against inflation - and not against a market downturn. And for that reason, Gero said, "Gold is not meant to be a buffer against stock market moves."

So now that we've got those cleared up - what should the average investor do with gold?

George Gero says retail investors should look to keep about 5% of their portfolio in gold. Since holding bullion will not protect you against a major downward move in stocks, Gero explains, you should just keep enough around to hedge yourself against inflation.

Why must be Gold for hedging Inflation???

Just For Thinking ....

Ask yourself this!

Do you have a Exit Plan for your Gold?

Hmm...

No Exit Plan???

No investment yield from Gold!

Hedge what???

We can invest for good yield and potential capital appreciation for real long term e.g. decades and the accumulated yield will be one day be more than enough to compensate us for our loyalty.

But, for Gold, can we speculate without an Exit Plan???

Don't be naive!!!

Buy Gold/Silver as insurance or hedge against inflation? (3)

Read? Buy Gold/Silver as insurance or hedge against inflation? (2)

In the past 10 years, gold has risen from US$300 an ounce to its current US$1,621. This is an amazing rise of 440% over 10 years and it has made Gold looked so precious.

But, can good growth-dividend stock be as precious as Gold?

May be I was so lucky to pick up Kep Corp and hold it tight so I was in a better position to compare and say it.

Even though Kep Corp has been dropping a lot for the past few weeks; but at today closing @ $7.47, it is still an amazing rise of 417% since Sep 2001 when I bought it and on top of that amazing rise in its stock price, I have also received total stock dividends worth 247% of the capital cost of this stock.

Can good growth-dividend stock be as precious as Gold?

What do you think now?

Buy Gold/Silver as insurance or hedge against inflation? (2)

Read? Buy Gold/Silver as insurance or hedge against inflation?

The only Gold that I have is my wedding Gold ring I am wearing.

Wait till I become multi-millionaire, then I will think about it of hedging tool.

Gold itself doesn't pay dividends and can't grow by itself. You really need a greater fool to come along to buy it higher. Unlike investing in stocks, it is the job of CEOs and their Boards to grow the company horizontally and/or vertically. Whether they can successfully achieve it or not is another story.

For example, look at our home grown companies like DBS, Keppel Corp, Semb Corp, ST Engineering, SingTel, etc growing so big and so large that you don't need greater fools to come along to buy it higher. Get it?

See how Keppel Corp grows itself and now it is growing its third wing - Infrastructure.

From its humble beginnings as a local ship repair yard, the Keppel Group has become one of the largest conglomerates in Singapore. Over the years, the Company has evolved into the current structure of focusing on three key businesses in Offshore & Marine, Infrastructure and Property.

From one local shipyard in Singapore to 20 yards globally.

Can Gold Bar grow?

Buy Gold/Silver as insurance or hedge against inflation?

Here is the Maths and decide for yourself how wrong can you be by ignoring hedging?

Let simply assume your  wealth is $100K and you hedge 7% of it with Gold/Silver and SGD depreciated by -30% and Gold/Silver appreciated by 300%.

So what is difference between hedge and No-hedge?

This is just 23%.  Is 23% that significant for 7% hedge?
