Have We truly Understand How Inflation Affects Us And Our Retirement Planning? (2)

Read? Have We truly Understand How Inflation Affects Us And Our Retirement Planning?

So far based on Uncle8888's past 17 years (2002 to 2018) actual data points; he is not too concerned on inflationary impact on future household expenses as he still has some fat to trim during those difficult years.

He is actually spending 8% below the projected multi-years inflationary rate at 2.5% over 17 years since 2002.

Probably, inflation will impact more on those who are already spending at their lowest possible living costs so there is not much fat to trim during hard times.

How to beat inflation?

Spending a bit more to build up those extra fat during good years. LOL!

Grinch has stolen the Christmas Rally!

Dow dives 600 points to below 22,000, S&P 500 enters bear market - worst Christmas Eve ever

CW8888: Who is the Grinch Stole Christmas? Trump The Grinch?

Trump resumed his attack on the Fed on Monday, tweeting that the central bank is "the only problem" with the U.S. economy.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin held calls on Sunday with the heads of the six largest U.S. banks in order to reassure nervous investors.

The NYSE closes early on Monday at 1 p.m. ET. The exchange is closed on Tuesday for Christmas day.

U.S. stocks plunged on Monday in their worst day of Christmas Eve trading ever, as the S&P 500 entered a bear market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 653 points Monday in volatile trading, falling below 22,000. The Dow sank more than 2 percent, then recovered nearly all of the day's losses, before again falling more than 2 percent. The S&P 500 fell 2.7 percent, slipping into a bear market as it fell 20.06 percent from recent highs. Wall Street traditionally considers a drop of 20 percent or more from recent highs to be a bear market. The Nasdaq Composite Index slid 2.2 percent.

Markets responded to turmoil in Washington. Multiple reports said President Donald Trump is discussing how to remove Jerome Powell from his position as chairman of the Federal Reserve. That discussion, as well as the recent market volatility, spurred Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to call the leaders of the six largest U.S. banks over the weekend. Additionally, Defense Secretary James

Mattis announced he would step down at the end of February, saying his views do not align with the president's.

Trump resumed his attack on the Fed on Monday, tweeting that the central bank is "the only problem" with the U.S. economy.

All 11 sectors of the S&P 500 are now negative for December, the fourth quarter and the full year.

Last week the Dow lost 1,655 points, or 6.8 percent. That was the Dow's worst week of trading since October 2008 during the financial crisis. The S&P 500 also lost 7 percent for the week. The Nasdaq Composite is now 22 percent below its record reached in August and is in a bear market.

Here's a tally of the carnage:

The Dow lost 6.8 percent and 1,655 points on the week. It was its worst percentage drop since October 2008.

The Nasdaq lost 8.3 percent on the week and is now 22 percent below its record reached in August, a bear market.

The S&P 500 lost 7 percent for the week and is now down 17.8 percent from its record.

The Dow and S&P 500, which are both in corrections, are on track for their worst December performance since the Great Depression in 1931, down more than 12 percent each this month.

Both the Dow and the S&P 500 are now in the red for 2018 by at least 9 percent.

The selling had conviction. More than 12 billion shares changed hands on U.S. exchanges on Friday, the heaviest volume in at least two years. The expiration of options also added to the volume.

As Employees We Will Retire One Day. It Is Just How We Retire

1. We choose to retire when we think and feel that we have reached financial independence.

2. We have reached or above mandatory retirement age but we are unable to extend employment.

3. We are retrenched and finally we give up (retire) after spending a few years still looking for job.

4. We are hard hit by critical illness and we feel we should stop working or retire and NOT spending the remaining of our time on Earth still working for a living or accumulating more wealth.

Uncle8888 heard that his younger ex-colleague has decided to retire early after he was hit by Big C!

Yes. We can love our job; but our body may not love our job! Our body can one day unexpectedly force us to give up that love!

S&P 500 drops more than 2% to new low for 2018, Dow dives 500 points

Thomas Franck | @tomwfranck
Published 6:06 PM ET Sun, 16 Dec 2018  Updated 33 Mins Ago

Stocks tanked on Monday, pushing the S&P 500 to a new low for the year amid growing concerns that the Federal Reserve's plan to raise interest rates could be too much for the economy and stock market to handle.

The S&P 500 fell as much as 2.5 percent to 2,530.54, surpassing its February intraday low of 2,532.69. The broad market index finished the session down 2 percent at 2,545.94, its lowest close for the year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 507.53 points to close at 23,592.98, bringing its two-day losses to more than 1,000 points. Shares of Amazon and Goldman Sachs led the declines.

The Dow and S&P 500, which are both in corrections, are on track for their worst December performance since the Great Depression in 1931, down more than 7 percent so far for the month. The S&P 500 is now in the red for 2018 by 4 percent.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.2 percent to finish the day at 6,753.73 as Microsoft dropped 2.9 percent. The Russell 2000 — which tracks the performance of smaller companies — entered a bear market, down 20 percent from its 52-week high.

DoubleLine Capital CEO Jeffrey Gundlach said Monday that he "absolutely" believes the S&P 500 will go below the lows that the index hit early in 2018.

"I'm pretty sure this is a bear market," Gundlach told Scott Wapner on CNBC's "Halftime Report. The major averages fell to session lows following his comments.

All 30 stocks in the Dow and all 11 sectors in the S&P 500 posted losses on Monday.

Are You Sure We Can Learn From Warren Buffet On His Investing Strategies And Method???

At the age of 26, Buffett had already accumulated a “retirement fund” of around $174,000 ($1.54 million in 2018 dollars) having been earning and investing money since he was a young lad, particularly during his years working for Ben Graham's hedge fund in NYC. He bought his home in Omaha for $31,000 cash and his living expenses were modest. It was at this point he decided to strike out on his own and launch his investment business.

He did not need to tap into this retirement fund to launch his investment partnerships, viewing that capital as the key enabler of him running his own business. During this period, Mr. Buffett lived off income and gains coming out of this personal investment portfolio, which was no doubt rapidly growing alongside his spectacular partnership returns.

Based on the above, the share price should go above the share placement price of Rm 1.40 when the 1,200 MW power plant is completed in 2020.

CW8888: Leverage is double edged sword. Bo Lampar retail like Uncle8888 won't touch leverage. He is very satisfied with his account size; no need to be biggerLeverage may be seen as Greed in disguise. No?

My wife started to accumulate more shares and we finally bought a total of about 160 million shares with margin financing. We bought too many shares with margin finance. Our average price should be about Rm 1.20 per share.

If you look at the price chart, you can see the price went up to Rm 1.85 in Feb 2018 and when I saw it started to drop, we started selling. I should have sold more to avoid force selling. It was my greed that I did not sell more shares.

In fact, forced selling was a blessing in disguise for us.

We had to sell to meet margin calls. The more we sold the more the price would drop. Forced selling is a vicious cycle. (CW8888: Ownself kills ownself during forced selling)

We were fortunate introspectively to have sold a huge amount of our holdings at higher prices in comparation with the current price of 50 sen per share. We have completely sold all our holdings.

Based on our average selling price of 80 sen, our average purchase price of Rm 1.20 per share and our total holdings of 160 million shares, we have lost Rm 64 million. Coincidently this is the 64 million $ question many people have asked me.

This is my most expensive lesson in my life.

Read? My biggest mistake in not selling - Koon Yew Yin

As I said before, no share can go up or go down indefinitely for whatever reason. When it is up, you must sell some so that you have money to buy when it is down. My biggest mistake is that I fell in love with my shares so much that I did not sell when they were at their peak.

EGO: Ego is the root of my problem. I am so proud to have found shares that went up a few hundred per cent within a couple of years and if I sold them, I have less shares to boast.

GREED: Another problem I have is greed, which is one of the deadly sins. It can be a virtue or a vice. In the stock market, it encourages investors to work harder to find good stocks to buy and continue to buy but then we forget about selling. That is often one of my biggest mistakes.

From the several articles I have written and published, you would know that I have discovered Latitude, VS, Lii Hen and a few other stocks which have gone up a few hundred per cent in the last couple of years. But my big mistake is that I always find difficulty in selling. I fall in love with my discoveries and I did not sell more when their prices were peaking
