I started serious Investing Journey in Jan 2000 to create wealth through long-term investing and short-term trading; but as from April 2013 my Journey in Investing has changed to create Retirement Income for Life till 85 years old in 2041 for two persons over market cycles of Bull and Bear.

Since 2017 after retiring from full-time job as employee; I am moving towards Investing Nirvana - Freehold Investment Income for Life investing strategy where 100% of investment income from portfolio investment is cashed out to support household expenses i.e. not a single cent of re-investing!

It is 57% (2017 to Aug 2022) to the Land of Investing Nirvana - Freehold Income for Life!

Investing Made Simple By Uncle8888 (40)

Read? Investing Made Simple By Uncle8888 (39)

The Past is NOT the Present and the Present is NOT the Future!

Short-term trading and long-term investing for passive income across market cycles is simply about picking up and ending up with one of these :

1) Multi-baggers

2) Touchstones

3) Pillows

4) Sardines

5) Salt fishes

6) Zero-baggers

It is all about our account size across market cycles to participate decisively and most important is our strict money management on position sizing; and then moves forward slowly to increase our size of Pillows and Multi-baggers to collect passive income in our retirement.

Address by Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation

FIRST HALF ENDED 30 JUNE 2021

Good evening. Welcome to the webcast on Keppel Corporation’s first half

2021 results and performance.

.....

We recognise that dividends are important to our shareholders. I mentioned earlier that some of the funds unlocked from our asset monetisation programme could be returned to shareholders over time. In appreciation of the support and confidence of our shareholders, the Board of Directors has approved an interim cash dividend of 12.0 cents per share for 1H 2021, after ringfencing the impairments related to KrisEnergy’s liquidation. This interim dividend, which will be paid to shareholders on 19 August 2021, is significantly higher than last year’s interim dividend of 3.0 cents and also higher than the interim dividend of 8.0 cents declared in 2019, reflecting the Board and management’s confidence in our vision and strategy.

GIC’s annualised real return at highest since 2015; remains cautious amid uncertain environment

SINGAPORE: Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC posted its highest returns since 2015 for the latest financial year, but said it remains cautious in an uncertain macro environment due to a protracted COVID-19 pandemic and stretched valuations.

In its 2020/21 annual report released on Friday (Jul 23), GIC said its 20-year annualised real rate of return came in at 4.3 per cent for the year ended Mar 31. This is up from 2.7 per cent in the previous financial year and the highest since 2015 when real returns hit 4.9 per cent.

The 20-year metric – a primary indicator of GIC’s investment performance – is a “rolling” return where years are dropped and added as the computation window moves. For instance, the figure for FY2020/21 represented the average annual return of GIC’s portfolio between April 2001 and March 2021, with global inflation taken into account.

The spike in the real rate of return was partly due to the “poor year” in FY2000/01, caused by the dot-com crash, being dropped out of the 20-year window, said GIC’s chief executive officer Lim Chow Kiat during an online press briefing ahead of the report’s release.

The past year also saw a strong rebound in risk assets, such as global equities, on the back of policy actions and the development of COVID-19 vaccines, he added.

“Almost all the risk assets have done really well and even those assets which (had direct) negative impact from the pandemic actually held up reasonably well. So you had a lot of assets performing and that, I guess, contributed to the good performance of the portfolio,” Mr Lim told reporters.

[WASHINGTON] Tesla founder Elon Musk said on Wednesday he personally has invested in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies but that he does not manipulate or "dump" the digital currencies.

In a wide-ranging online panel discussion that included Twitter and Square founder Jack Dorsey, Mr Musk said he believes in cryptocurrencies as a way to "increase the power of the individual in relation to government," and that he has invested in ethereum and dogecoin in addition to bitcoin.

Mr Musk said he loses money when the value of bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies declines but that he has not been selling despite the volatility.

"I pump but I don't dump," he told the forum sponsored by the Crypto Council for Innovation.

Temasek’s net portfolio value rebounds to record high

SINGAPORE: Temasek Holdings on Tuesday (Jul 13) reported a record net portfolio value for the last financial year, while signalling cautious optimism in the global economy for the short to medium term.

For the year ended Mar 31, its net portfolio was valued at S$381 billion, an increase of S$75 billion - or nearly 25 per cent - from the S$306 billion it achieved a year ago, according to its latest annual review.

This marks a turnaround from the previous financial year of 2019/2020, which saw a 2.2 per cent drop in the net portfolio value due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its one-year total shareholder return, which takes into account all dividends distributed to shareholders minus any capital injections, turned positive at 24.53 per cent, compared with the -2.28 per cent a year ago.

Over a longer term, its 10-year and 20-year total shareholder returns came in at 7 per cent and 8 per cent respectively, a slight increase from the 5 per cent and 6 per cent respectively in the previous year.

Dow hits 35,000 points as US stocks end at records

NEW YORK: The Dow flirted with its first-ever close above 35,000 points on Monday (Jul 12) as US stocks turned in another record-filled session ahead of a heavy schedule of earnings releases and economic reports.

The blue-chip index finished at 34,996.18, a gain of 0.4 per cent. The index was just above 35,000 points at the 8pm GMT closing bell, but settled under the benchmark after the close.

The broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.4 per cent to 4,384.63, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.2 per cent to 14,733.24.

All three major indices finished at records, reflecting how optimism over the economic recovery has offset worries about inflation and the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Investors are geared up for a heady earnings season, beginning on Tuesday with reports from JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs.

The period is expected to be the second strongest quarter in the last 25 years, according to CFRA Research's Sam Stovall.

But analysts at DataTrek Research warned that earnings seasons "needs to be awesome" to extend the rally.

"We're reminded of the old market saying, 'buy the rumour, sell the news'," DataTrek said in a note."

The first bit is happening right now. We will shortly see how the second part plays out."

Other highlights this week include congressional testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and the release of June consumer price and retail sales data.

New York Fed President John Williams told reporters on Monday that the recovery in key areas of the US economy is not sufficient enough for the central bank to start pulling back on its aggressive stimulus program.

Large banks enjoyed a good session as treasury bond yields strengthened and investors looked ahead to the earnings announcements. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Bank of America all piled on at least 1 per cent.

Disney was another big winner, surging 4.2 per cent following a strong opening weekend for its Black Widow superhero movie. The entertainment giant also plans to increase the price for its ESPN+ streaming service, CNBC reported.

Despite the pandemic, the CPF Board reported that voluntary top-ups into the special account and retirement account also reached a new high at S$3 billion in 2020, having jumped 39 per cent year on year from S$2.15 billion. More than one-third of these members were topping up for the first time.
