Hmmm that's the thing I missed about living & working at small town in UK about 20 yrs ago. These type of actions & behaviours are the norm then. You greet each other (strangers) at bus-stops, chit-chat with strangers while waiting in supermarket lines, engage in impromptu discussions & helping each other when situations arise e.g. flat tyre or car stuck in ditch, dropping by your neighbours for drinks/meals/BBQs, etc. Used to have an elderly (70+) neighbour who actually served in S'pore & Malaya during the 1950s for his NS --- quite a character and he was the informal grassroots leader of our neighbourhood there. His wife (also 70+) used to sunbathe in her bra & shorts in the backyard during summer, which I could see from our 2nd floor bedroom --- I "complained" about it to him but he just asked me & wifey to come over for beers!
ReplyDeleteMay be we are living in pigeon holes for too long. :-(
