Mount Hiei (比叡山 Hiei-zan)
By train
From Kyoto, the JR Kosei line goes directly to the Hieizan-Sakamoto station which is a 1,200 meter walk from the Sakamoto Cable Car or the trailhead to climb Mount Hiei on foot.
You can have nice view of Lake Biwa from Mt Hiei
We then walked along the trail to the next destination at the other side of Mt Hiei to take shuttle bus to the summit,
Instead of taking Eizan Cable Car down to different train station back to Kyoto; we decided to take late 4:30 pm long bus ride down the mountain to have more 360 view when going down the mountain to Kyoto.
