Counting So Hard On How Much Money Is Enough?

In Apr 2004, after hearing the bad news from his doctor, he spent the next few months counting so hard on how much is enough for his family to survive through the next 15 years without too much financial hardship on them.

How much is enough for the next 15 years till kids are independent on their own?

Where are the sources of funding?

With several insurance policies, CPF saving, investment portfolio and a fully paid 4 room HDB flat; the counting of money showed that it was not that bad. His family should be able to "tong" through the next 15 years without too much financial hardship.

Read? 10th Year Anniversary???

In the last few years, he also began to seriously start counting his money but at a more leisure and relax pace. This time, it is not about his family having to survive through financial hardship for the next XX years; it is about how much is enough for his spouse and himself to live comfortably and fulfilling their Bucket List.

This time, he really feels so good and see different life experience in counting money.

Until we can see the face of death more clearly, why so keen in counting money? But, it is better to start counting early as tomorrow may never come!

This is an answer to one Auntie's question on why he is so keen on tracking, updating and counting his money in his Balance Sheet!

  1. Life may be unexpectedly shorter and retirement may be unexpectedly sooner; but retirement and death will certainly happen so let us prepare early and face them.

  2. bottom line is you "like to count money". its different from you "like money", which is a good thing. most people do not like to count money and they always make false assumption about their money.

i happen to like to count my bullets, my positions, where in the battle field, i kill or be kill by my own bullets.

  3. Ah, all these "counting of money" talk brings back bittersweet memories of a boy of 16-17 who used to let the air-con bus pass so as to save that few cents by taking non-aircon buses instead.

Those were the gross income of $450-500 per month days and when CPF contribution was 25%... After CPF 50% of net pay goes to mom. Well, you do the math how much was left.

Now this young boy is middle-aged. He is very humbled and contented he does not have to "count money" exactly ever. "Agar-agar" fuzzy guesstimation will do.

And 2 years back when he visited a friend working at Tuas for lunch, this now middle-aged guy was complaining why feeder bus no aircon? So hot!

    Oh the irony!

    3. Friend,

Concession pass only for students lah.

Start working how to qualify for concession pass?

I now waiting for age 60 so I can qualify for Senior Citizen Concession Pass. My dad use it to travel all over Singapore for coffee shop chatting with friends ;)

      You very de cute!

Unlimited rides does not mean 24 hours service. LOL!

If 3 hours walk back with girl friend super romantic! I did that once in Shanghai. That's when I held her hand for the first time. It was after watching Cai Qin's concert. Along the way stop for "tau huey". Good times!
