Expert Mode In Investing: Patiently Collect Dividends Over Long Run or Good Market Timing???
Right or Wrong?
No right. No wrong?
Known Unknown?
Unknown Unknown?
What do you think?
Real people. Real Example ...
Uncle8888's top three holding and also his top three longest holding period from 12 to 14 yrs.
12 years is a long time! Long enough for a baby to reach his or her secondary school level. :-)
14 years of collecting dividends from Kep Corp. It should be more than enough to show good patience. Right?
Total Return Vs. 2007 Peak Stock Price:
Just about 2.5% above 2007 peak.
Market timer won!
13 years of collecting dividends from Semb Corp. It should be more than enough to show good patience. Right?
Total Return Vs. 2007 Peak Stock Price:
Just about -9.1% below 2007 peak.
Market timer won big!
12 years of collecting dividends from DBS. It should be more than enough to show good patience. Right?
Total Return Vs. 2007 Peak Stock Price:
Just about 33.4% above 2007 peak.
Tortoise won!

How to believe that there is a way of consistency in the stock market over decades? The Holy Grail?
ReplyDeleteCW,
ReplyDeleteThose going up the mountain are either chanting:
1) If I think I can, I can! Or
2) If others can, so can I!
It's based on goals, dreams, visions, straight-line extrapolations, and this is what I'll do!
Those going down the mountain?
They are looking at personal track records, and sharing this is what I've done, felt, observed, experienced...
One side thinks its different this time! The other side laments its never different this time.
LOL!
If you had reinvested the dividends, I think the returns should be higher right?
ReplyDeleteIf add in 2.5% CAGR interests from cumulative dividends; it should be higher.
DeleteRead? CPF investment account is good at locking up profits!
you still didnt show the avg price of your top 3 holdings haha
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing!
This is something that I learned differently. I learned to avoid thinking of average price. When we think of average price; this is what will happen. When lower become cheaper, we will tend to average down. Cheap what!
DeleteI learn to think of every position is independent and think it as round X and round Y and not average price Z. Cheem?
Actually this is about right.
Deleteaverage price means you are fixated on those stocks that you average in on.
the world changes, no point keep averaging in on texas instruments.
