Why Many Want To Pursue Financial Independence And Get Out Of Rat Race?

Read? A whopping 92% of working Singaporeans are stressed – and women are prioritising families over themselves, study finds

If you’re feeling stressed at work, you’re not alone. A vast majority of working Singaporeans are under stress, and women in particular feel that it’s less manageable, a survey has found.

In the 2019 Cigna 360 Well-Being Survey, a whopping 92 per cent of working Singaporeans report feeling stressed, higher than the global average of 84 per cent.

Of this, 13 per cent say their stress is unmanageable, which is on par with the global average, according to the study which surveyed a total of 13,200 online interviews in 23 markets, including 502 residents in Singapore.

And stress doesn’t go undetected in the workplace. The survey found that 55 per cent of Singaporean respondents notice their colleagues’ stress. Cigna’s report said this could be a sign that they are hiding their stress or aren’t comfortable talking about it.

Noticing colleagues’ stress in turn makes respondents more self-aware, it seems. 30 per cent of respondents feel more conscious about managing their own stress upon seeing others stressed at work.

And a vast majority (90 per cent) agree that stress has a serious impact on the workplace. Some of the more worrying effects are lowered morale and even resignation.

    Aiyah if no stress, got good reward / perks, and no serious health issue most people will be happy to work until up lorry e.g. Warren Buffett (as opposed to Peter Lynch) or Queen Elizabeth (as opposed to Emperor Akihito).

    The bigger problem is most ppl unable to quit rat race. So end up even more stressed! Siao liao. :P

  2. Last week, I happened to be near my ex-office so I popped into canteen to get free kopi from one of those ex-colleague. While waiting for him come to canteen. One other ex-colleague saw and came to shake hand and chat.

    Ex: I get you kopi?

    Me: I am waiting for XXx to buy me kopi

    Ex: You mean you don't you don't want me to buy for you.

    Me: Hmm.. ok. Kopi o kosong. :-)

    He is 60 and thinking about whether to retire @ 62 but wondering what to do after retiring.

    He is thinking hard it is either stressed by boredom and trying to spend free time or continue to be stressed by work. He has to choose the one that is lesser evil. ha ha.

    Stress! ha ha

    Either by work or boredom!

    Retired worry about stress also-Chiam Liu.

    Myself case was, I was "forced" to retired at the age of 53. But I love listening to my HiFi collections.

    Personally i think no one should be bored in retirement because U can choose to bum around or join 101 activities if only U want to.

    Like there are a lot of Charity Associations just to mention one of the 101 activities waiting for U.

    i am a born "DIY" in life, don't believe can blame anyone.


  4. Work related stress is real. Read? My mum resigned from her job, whats gonna happen next?

    Last week. heard from one ex-colleague saying one of our colleague has retired 1.5 yrs. Before his retirement at 63; he was taking 2 tablets to control his high BP and recently his doctor has cut his daily dosage to 0.5 tablet.

    Reasons for reduced BP is no more work related stresses and more time for activities and exercises. More health maintenance instead of more money.

    1. Boredom is lesser evil if we have planned well for our retirement from full-time job. With $60 unlimited concession travel; seniors will find suitable activities to reduce boredom. Go and jio!

      As I roam about; in the morning, large group of seniors gather together to do some form of exercise is quite common sighting.

  5. Of course stress is real to our health, to our whole being. i suggest over-stressed can even contribute to cancer.

    So is Tai Chi and Chi Kung for real.

    I had practiced Chi Kung continuously for about 6 to 8 months and I had noticed colleagues had a more relax attitude talking to me.

    So it was a real experience for me practising the art of Chi Kung could make people around U feel relaxed too, besides yourself.

    The mind is the root of/to all things in life.

    That's why I think one's mental health is most important to living.

    If u have it, everything can be managed if not solved.
