CNY spirits continue to give strong bull to Jap stocks!
ReplyDeleteNikkei closes above 30,000 for 1st time since 1990.
1990 case was a dead cat bounce as Nikkei dropped from 40,000 in 1989 and then disintegrated over 20 years to 8,000. 🤮
Hopefully it's the opposite this time round! What's good for Jap is good for the world. Huat Ah!
STI follows Nikkei and then all Koala and Pandas in Singapore celebrated Big National Day in Aug 2021! LOL!
DeleteBesides Plaza Accord which brought about the JY appreciatio, US also sanctioned the Japanese chip industries which was then the world's leader (with player such as Toshiba). Japanese chip industries surrendered without a fight, this benefitted the rise of Taiwan (TSMC) and Korea (Samsung). The latter two are now the world's leaders in chip production by far (with the latest 5 nm chip, used extensively in h-phone, cars & all latest electronic gadgets). The chip war is now very hot and the world is in dire shortage of chips, with TSMC share price rose more than double over the past year (have small holding in it). This is the "hardware" side of the technology war. China has caught up on the software aspects (with BAT), but still has Achilles Heel in chip design & production . US tried to do the same trick on China chip industries as they had done for Japan. China has one advantage which Japan lacks, the world largest market for chip & consumption in general (2020 statistics). Too soon to say China has been defeated, China is spending hundreds of $ bil to play catch up with chip manufacture & self sufficient, next 2 year is critical to know whether they succeed.
