Transocean to operate newbuild unit off Thailand for Chevron
Transocean has taken delivery of a Keppel FELS newbuild
Super B jack-up bound for offshore Thailand to drill for Chevron.
Singapore’s Keppel said the unit, named Ao Thai, had been delivered on budget and on schedule.
Keppel FELS managing director Wong Kok Seng said that the unit was the fifteenth delivered by the contractor this year and that Keppel FELS was on track to deliver a record 20 by the end of 2013.
It is the third unit of its kind the yard has built for Transocean after the Transocean Siam Driller and Transocean Andaman.
The unit comes equipped with larger spud cans to allow it to operate in soft-soil areas, and can stand offline in its drilling system package, allowing for simultaneous drilling and drill pipe preparation.
It also has 1.5 million-pound drilling system and maximum combined cantilever load of 3200 kips to help drive drilling operations.
