In fishing, you throw your line into the sea water hoping to catch “
a fish,” not “
the fish.”
So do you come to the stock market to fish for "
a stock" or "
the stock".
There are only two kinds of stocks. Those that make you money sooner ("
a stock") and those that take longer or never in your life time ("
the stock").
In fishing, you are happy to catch "
a fish" and not "
the fish". Similarly, in stock market, you should be happy to make money from "
a stock" and not "
the stock".
So train yourself to look at chart and seize the market opportunity to fish for "
a stock" and not "
the stock".
Obviously, buying at the bottom of the market is an opportune time to get on board for the ride up.Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure there won't be another major pullback. For most investors, a better strategy is to stay in the market with a program of consistent investments in quality companies.
