Highly trained, middle-aged and out of work (2)

Read? Highly trained, middle-aged and out of work

Our human asset is like soccer. We can't just play well in the first half and lost badly on the second half.

Fantastic first-half ...

Dressed in an unassuming polo T-shirt and jeans, it is hard to tell that Mr Desmond Tan was once the head of Asia sales at one of the largest European banks.

Forced to quit shortly after the 2008 financial crisis, he was later turned away from jobs by bank after bank, some even saying he was "over-qualified" for the positions they were offering, given his over two decades of experience.

The 55-year-old, who used to earn more than $25,000 a month, now has to settle for commissions of about $3,000 from his current job as a property agent.

"I used to deal with money that numbered in the millions," Mr Tan said. But now his fees come only in the hundreds.

Very poor second-half ....

We must prepare for our second-half like Ants or live like Grasshoppers in the first-half. Your choice. No right or wrong?

Golar receives financing commitment for GoFLNG Hilli

Golar LNG Limited ("Golar" or "the Company") announced today that it has received an underwritten financing commitment for its first GoFLNG project from CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Co. Ltd ("CSSCL") in relation to a conversion financing and sale and leaseback transaction for the GoFLNG Hilli.

The financing structure will fund up to 80% of the project cost and will be split into two phases. The first phase enables Golar to drawdown up to $700m from the facility to fund the ongoing conversion cost, once Golar has spent $400m of the estimated $1.2bn conversion cost and the tolling contract with Perenco and SNH have been ratified by the Cameroon government, expected during Q3 2015. The Company has spent approximately $385m against the conversion project to date and hence expects that the equity threshold required to trigger the financing arrangement will be reached shortly. This financing means that following the Cameroon government ratification, no further Golar direct funding for the Hilli conversion will be required, with the remainder of the conversion project being financed through this new debt facility.

The second phase is triggered upon the delivery of the converted GoFLNG Hilli from Keppel Shipyard and the satisfaction of certain additional performance milestones and will allow for the drawdown of up to a further $260m giving an aggregate $960m representing 80% of the project cost. The financing has a tenor of 10-years, a 15 year amortisation profile and contemplates the eventual sale of GoFLNG Hilli to Golar LNG Partners. The expected cost of the financing during the conversion period is 6.25%, while the long term financing is projected to cost less than 6% on a fully swapped ten year basis.

Securing this financing is a further important step in realising Golar's Integrated LNG Mid-Stream Services Strategy. Apart from securing the Hilli programme, the financing will ultimately enable the release of Golar equity for application on other GoFLNG programmes.

Gold plunges but major currencies quiet

CW8888: Gold without its cash flow is even worse if you not intelligently speculate without an exit price in your mind.

Read? Grand old investor and gambler???

Gamble is a trigger word for defensive responses so we say intelligent speculation.

WASHINGTON: A sharp plunge in gold prices to a five-year low shook financial markets on Monday, but major currencies held up.

Gold fell as low as US$1,072 per ounce in Asia trade from around US$1,145 at the end of last week, before pulling up to US$1,097 late in the day on New York's Comex board. Traders said massive selling in China, where financial markets have been extremely turbulent generally, was behind the drop.

Still, the key currency pairs were little changed. The dollar was higher generally, but only by small amounts: it moved to US$1.084 against the euro, and to 124.30 yen. The euro, meanwhile, rose to 134.55 yen.
"Commodities have been in the receiving end of the bear blitz in recent weeks," said Fawad Razaqzada of Forex.com.

"Traders have been worried about the impact of the appreciating US dollar and falling confidence in China, with the world's second-largest economy being a major consumer of gold, oil and iron ore among other basic materials."

Keppel secures second liftboat order at US$85 million

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), has secured a contract from Crystal Heights Holdings Limited (Crystal Heights), a company specialised in the offshore oil and gas market, to build a high specification liftboat worth US$85 million.

The liftboat is designed by Keppel O&M's liftboat design specialist, Bennett Offshore in collaboration with Keppel FELS. Scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2017, the liftboat will have provisions enabling it to operate in China, the Middle East and the Gulf of Mexico.

Liftboats are dedicated vessels used to support offshore platforms in construction, accommodation and well intervention as well as maintenance and installation.

Mr Wong Kok Seng, Managing Director of Keppel O&M (Offshore) and Keppel FELS, said, "This latest contract from Crystal Heights is the second liftboat based on Keppel's innovative proprietary solution that Keppel has been contracted to build within a year.

"We have leveraged our jackup rig technologies and expertise to develop our own series of liftboat designs that is able to value add to the industry. For instance, it will have a higher freeboard for safer operations and retractable spud cans flushed to the bottom of the rig's hull which reduces drag when transiting between locations.

"Even as the market for drilling rigs remains depressed, Keppel has the versatility and capabilities to design and build other products that are in demand, such as mobile units for plug and abandonment, accommodation and maintenance."

Mr Kenny Cai, Director of Crystal Heights, added, "Despite the current low oil price environment, there are a large number of offshore platforms in the world that require more efficient and cost-effective solutions such as the use of a dedicated liftboat for their maintenance, upgrading as well as removal. Besides being utilised in the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa, they are also increasingly being employed by key operators in China, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

"Building our first liftboat with a reputable shipyard will enable us to establish an early foothold in the market, especially in the Asian region which currently has the least number of liftboats available per platform. Having worked with Keppel on previous projects before, I am confident that we can look forward to receiving a best-in-class liftboat from them promptly and safely."

Mr Cai is a shareholder of TS Offshore and FTS Derricks which have contracted for a KFELS N Plus and a KFELS Super B Class jackup rig respectively currently being built in Keppel FELS.

Keppel's self-elevating and self-propelled liftboat design is capable of operating at a water depth of up to 60 metres. It will be equipped with a 280-tonne deck crane enabling it to undertake the maintenance of most shallow water oil and gas fields and wind farms, as well as various workover drilling operations and well intervention applications. In addition to its large versatile open deck space for cargo storage, the vessel has an accommodation capacity of 200 persons which is located above the main deck for greater safety considerations and meets the latest IMO requirements.

The liftboat is installed with Keppel's patented and proven jacking system designed by subsidiary Offshore Technology Development. The strength of this system was demonstrated on the Seafox 5 offshore wind turbine installer when it completed over a hundred jacking cycles in a year, which is equivalent to what a typical drilling rig does over a 20-year span. Since the start of 2015, more than 4,000 jacking systems have been ordered of which some 2,900 are currently in operation on more than 70 jackup rigs.

In addition to this latest contract, Keppel's joint venture shipyard in Qatar, Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (N-KOM), is also building a similar vessel for a Qatari oilfield service company.

The above contract is not expected to have a material impact on the net tangible assets or earnings per share of Keppel Corporation Limited for the current financial year.

$1.38m - that's how much you need to retire: Online poll

Survey also finds building a nest-egg is top priority among affluent Singaporeans

Saving for retirement is the top priority among affluent Singaporeans, well ahead of putting cash aside for a rainy day and education, according to a recent online poll.

It found that the ideal retirement nest-egg is estimated to be about $1.38 million, although respondents varied in how they arrived at this figure. About 55 per cent sought professional financial advice before investing while 13 per cent derived it from the media.

But around 25 per cent relied on guesswork, which is "alarming", said Mr Chris Gill, general manager, Southeast Asia at Friends Provident International, which conducted the poll in May of around 500 affluent and aspiring-affluent investors in Singapore and a similar number in Hong Kong.

It defined affluent here as having $200,000 to $1 million in investable assets while those with $80,000 to $199,999 were deemed "aspiring affluent".

CW8888:

Let see how long this magical number of $1.38M nest-egg can last and assuming inflation rate @2.5%

What If I Don't Invest When I Retire and Also Not Willing To Work Part-time?

One office auntie in her late 50s told Uncle8888 that she and her husband have abstained from the stock market after AFC. They have lost too much and chopped fingers liao! Whatever remaining in their portfolio let them rot and don't bother them anymore.

Now, what will happen when Uncle8888 doesn't invest due to his conservative mind and thinking that the stock market is too volatile  and losing retirement fund is too risky and too scary.

BTW, Uncle8888 sent her the "Sustainable Retirement Income For Life" MS Excel worksheet for her to think about it and determine whether her saving is sustainable for life?

(1) Don't Invest

ABSOLUTELY this will happen to him ..

He will be on his way down to his ZERO as future decades of inflation will slowly slowly deplete his wealth.

100% to ZERO!!! It is just matter of Time.

Real Person. Real Story!

(2) Take the emotional roller coaster ride over market cycles of Bull and Bear.

Remember this ...

Stock price volatility is NOT permanent losses YET. A portfolio of stocks is definitely volatile but NOT ZERO cash flow.

(3) Understand Wealth Formula and build your own sustainable cash flow.

Wealth = Asset Value + Cash Flow

Asset Value will be volatility and should not be your immediate concern. You should be focusing your concerns more on your Cash Flow and how to make it sustainable over future economic and market cycles.

How?

Learn from Singapore for her water scarcity solutions.

In just five decades, Singapore has overcome water shortages despite its lack of natural water resources and pollution in its rivers.
Driven by a vision of what it takes to be sustainable in water, Singapore has been investing in research and technology. Today, the nation has built a robust, diversified and sustainable water supply from four different sources known as the Four National Taps (water from local catchment areas, imported water, reclaimed water known as NEWater and desalinated water).
By integrating the system and maximising the efficiency of each of the four taps, Singapore has ensured a stable, sustainable water supply capable of catering to the country’s continued growth.
