  2. Whatever, the main thing is TIME.
If you need the money, you need the money.
Be careful of the FX exchanged rate if you plan to invest in say S&P 500 for 10 to 20 years.
    > 25 years ago USD $1 : Sing SGD. $3. Now 1.35 : 1.
How much have you lost in FX? US. $1.65 + inflation?
i know i have HP for more then 25 years under DRIP.
Can't make even enough to cover the loss in the FX rate.

Suppose you have been B & H Malaysia stocks, the FX now is MYR $2.65 : SGD $1. Now how to calculate the FX rate influence on your Malaysian stocks? Gain or loss? Or really what is MYR $2.65 can buy what things in Malaysia compare to in Singapore now. Or how to compare?
Another words, is stock an asset to B & H for retirement?

Of course. Those who don't have the practices of the "Millionaire- Next - Door" most probably can not invest for life.

  5. temperament,

I like your HP real life experience versus "what others say"...

I was laughing so hard after reading the article CW referred us to.

Must have done deep googling or data mining to find this Indian website?

To be a "good" investor, one has to be either dead or developed amnesia... Now, what do we call this "style" of investing?

Isn't it more related to the "Look ma! No brains needed!" kind of passive investing?

You can't get more passive than dead!

    LOL!
