One reason to have multiple bank accounts is to take advantage of deposit insurance, although this is not a good solution for high networth individuals.
I'm afraid there may come a day in future when people use multiple bank accounts to avoid negative interest rate. In Germany, some banks are charging negative interest rates. Hope that day never come to Singapore.

4 in Mandarin, Teochew, Hokkien, Cantonese sounds like "death"...
