Stocks closed higher amid rising prices for oil and gold, as the market hit new highs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 32.85 points, or 0.27 percent, to close at 12,426.75, the highest close for the blue-chip index since June 5, 2008
The S&P 500 gained 2.91 points, or 0.2 percent, to close at 1,335.54, breaking through a key resistance level at 1,333. It was the highest close for the broad market index since Feb. 18.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 8.63 points, or 0.3 percent, to close at 2,799.82, also the highest close since Feb. 18.
The CBOE Volatility Index, widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, fell below 17.
